Tales from Albian - Issue Three

Tales from Albian

Chaos Chariots - Gregor the Crazed with the Unhinged, Insane & The Mad.

Well folks this is the first up-to-date instalment of the blog. Having now finished posting all my old content from other places, I have to actually to get down and write stuff, not without some trepidation I can tell you! I am not a writer by nature so this is me pushing myself out of my comfort zone for you all, so I would really appreciate any comments or feedback below, as it will guide me on future direction and content of this blog.

All four chariots

Since leaving Twittersville I wasn't sure where to start, so after posting all my old stuff on this new blog I knew I needed to sit down and think about the direction in which to go.  The answer was easy really, start at the beginning for my painting journey.

Well, it all started, as I am sure it does for almost everyone…..in the 90s as a kid….I can remember very clearly buying my first ever White Dwarf (what a wonderful magazine that used to be), and my first reading of Lord of the Rings.

This lead naturally to all Fantasy and Sci Fi sparking my imagination in one way or another. However, until around 2005 this creative spark mainly manifested itself into playing games. My first ‘professional' standard, or what the heck that even means, miniatures were my Fantasy Chaos Army from around 2005 to 2015, yes it took that long, there are well over two hundred 28mm models of various heroic and monster sizes that took me almost all of the spare time over the ten years to paint, in the margins of night shifts and babies.

So even though this is Issue Three of Tales from Albian, it's really my first real blog on a Load of Old Toby. Issue One covered my marauders and houseman, Issue Two my covered my converted Chaos Warshine from back in 2015 (all available on this blog).

I suspect there maybe a three or four issues before we move onto my next army.

So, without further ado here is my four Chaos Chariots.

The Unhinged

Chariot one entitled 'The Unhinged', this is a standard chaos chariot with the chaos knight replaced by a marauder, as my army theme was designed to be a bit more barbaric this still theme seems to fit nicely with the horseman and maunders from issue one.

The Insane

The second chariot here is called, 'The Insane' hopefully you will note they are very similar in design and painting scheme, the only differences really being the weapon of choice on the charioteer and the banners/iconography on the chariot.

The Mad

The third chariot is called 'The Mad', again same theme. A nice rear shot here shows you the wee Mad McJock tartan all my marauders are wearing.

Tratan

To finish this week's blog, I wish to present you with 'Gregor the Crazed' mounted on a chaos Gorbeast chariot. Again, it is obvious here the chaos knight has been removed in favour of the wizard, this particular model is one of my oldest in my collection and I didn't have a home for him for a long time. Until it is, that I decided these four chariots would be the core of my tournament army before Warhammer died a death. Even today, over ten years later, looking back on the finished product I like how it has turned out. He looks suitably nuts and out of his tree on the old toby!

  1. Cool beans, I am getting Simon Bisley Slaine vibes, is that intentional or just me?

    1. It’s definitely one of the big influences and didn’t set out to replicate it but it’s great if that’s the feeling.
