Tales From Albian

Monsters & Beasts - The Horrors

Welcome everyone, I do hope you all had a great week.

This week we move onto Chaos Monsters and Beasts. The first to show you this week is the Shaggoth. Actually hard to see from my older photos but this is one of my best models the skin has come out really well, see second picture.

Most pleasing part of this model painting wise has to be how his Axe has come out:

Zoomed right in

Next up is the Giant Beast Ghorgon which actually has its own rules other than a giant beast, I think I got the name of this one right, though I can’t remember. Also I know this isn’t an GW mini but again can’t think who the manufacturer is off the top of my head, though I do remember he is call the head collector.

Next up is some converted Chaos Ogres, these are Games Workshop standard ogres with some weapon swaps and the same pink and purples colour scheme that is running throughout the army. Note; here is one of my custom movement trays, details of how to make these can be found in the Lard Magazine article on this blog.

Chaos Ogres

Next up is a big unit of Chaos Minotaurs, these are all classic models no new ones here! I converted the standard a little with a beastman skull, another common theme, and the classic Doomball leads them. This is my first all purple unit and we are now getting into some of my oldest existing models, again another custom tray.

Chaos Minotaurs

I next took the classic chaos spawn model and coverted it by using a spare Minotaur head with lots of greenstuff for fill gaps and make up the fur. I really like how he has turned out, he is particularly menacing and fits in well with the theme, though now a little top heavy balance wise.

Choas Spawn

Chaos Wardogs, here are sat in a custom tray, with the same paint scheme of purples and browns. These used to be skirmish when I first painted them, but I am sure there was a rule change around 2008 ish to the tray followed, spare beastman shields used for decoration.

Wardogs

Next up is my converted Beast Lord with Bray Horn, I particularly like this little bit of self made art. It’s the traditional old beast lord with a back banner, converted with more skulls. He has a little fella hiding behind, who in my mind represents a rule of the ‘Bray Horn’.

Beastlord

My Bestigors unit has lots of different figures in it, all Games Workshop but the guy on the end is from Mordhiem gang I think, and the limited edition standard is front and centre. There are other beast lord figures, who didn’t quiet make the top dog ‘Beast’ position, too.

Unit Front

Unit Side
Now to the business end with a big 30 strong unit of Gors, acting as a bodyguard for the Beastlord. Not much going on here other than 30 or so of them, most importantly this is the oldest unit in my collection dating back to 2005-6 when I first started painting in anger. As such, the paint job is what I consider basic or tabletop, but still all neat and tidy.

Gor Unit

Ungors follow the Gors, and I was much slower at paining here, and a block of 50 took me right up to around 2007 to finish I think.......maybe longer!

Horde Unit

Ungor skirmishers below, were around 2008 I think, and are all mounted on double bases, I remember this idea came from a White Dwarf article. Gosh I really miss the standard of that magazine back from the 90s. We have lost something from our hobby along the way I think, maybe the world has lost something it just seems like everything is about money rather than quality now….anyway before I start moaning shall bring this weeks blog to a wrap....

That’s quite a lot packed in this week and not too much waffling from me. Probably there will be a lot of articles like this as this, as the blog matures, and maybe some with just extra pictures. If the waffle is something you all enjoy please do drop me a line to that effect.

Ungor Skirmishers

Bye and thank you for reading!

  1. Cool beans, and yes that axe head is tasty.

I am not 100% familiar with Gors and Ungors, as it was just beastmen back in my day!
Same with all these fancy Trolls.

They are subsets of beastmen are they?

    1. Yes basically ugors are used as light skirmish troops. I think you can even give them short bows now….chaos with middle troops 🫣

Gors are just Beastmen, and Bestigors are like veteran Gors with heavy armour.
