Blog Update

Empire Rebasing

Just got to keep the blog going and this year I have been touching up models and rebasing my empire army to all fit on the same size bases.

Rebasing nearly finished

I finding a struggle to write a whole blog for just tiny updates of work in progress shots. So you should try to follow me on Bluesky if you can because I keep that updated frequently also now trying out instagram/threads, never used it before so just a trial see if it adds value.

Total in progress impromptu shot

Up until now they have been on different sizes and styles due to all being painted at various different times. Anyhow yet a show you nearly finished article of Reiksguard Knights these will likely get there own post in the near future.

First full unit shot

This unit was mainly painted on New Years Day 2026 while listening to the Austrian Philharmonic Orchestra, glam or what!

Side on shot of hand painted banners

The Reiksguard form the bulk of the Imperial Household and are the loyal bodyguard to the emperor. They are led here by a Captain of the Guard.

  1. "Listening to the Austrian Philharmonic Orchestra" You can't get much more Empire than that!!

Question for you, why do you post, what is your rationale?
If it is for record/archive purposes then ignore all social media, they are all about their own platform.
Twitter/X/Bluesky etc have limits on characters, words and images so they are restricting your own output in favour of small fleeting content that is forgotten in favour of the most recent post.
Not only do they not care what you post or let you post as much as you want to, they hide it and make it hard for search engines to find content, blogs however let you post as much as you want and do not try to stop search engines accessing that content.

I often find a blog that I have not come across and discover it has years of content for me to explore at my leisure. Bookmarked and I will go back when I feel the urge and have a read of one of the many posts.

If it is for attention/dopamine and instant gratification then social media is totally the way to achieve that, but is it healthy?

I think of blogs as books and social media as junk mail flyers for conservatories and gutter cleaning, oh and those fake charity clothes bags that also get shoved through your letter box.

    I know which I prefer.

    1. You raise some excellent points. I think my reply is a combination of your answers.

It certainly isn’t healthy the social media part. But some interactions are nice.

I love it flyers for conservatory comment, you’re so right. But I guess they must work in some way otherwise they wouldn’t exist!

    2. I think it is the numbers game.
      When I did Twitter/Bluesky/FB/Reddit etc.
Most interactions where just likes, very little in the way of any meaningful comment.
I did do some stats which I have discarded but comparing social media posts to forum/blog posts, there was a huge disparity between to the two in terms of comments and or meaningful replies.
I was finding I had to post a LOT across the various social media platforms to get close t the same interaction a single blog or forum post would get.

I guess if you throw enough content at social media some of it will stick, for a brief scrolling moment at least.

Social media was almost always just likes, people followed you so that you would follow them back and in turn 'like' their stuff.

I grew bored of the falseness of it all, and the AI slop creeping in.

Blogs and forums are more work I guess, but the content more satisfying.
Besides not everything has to be NOW, wasn't it a stouty beer that said good things come to those that wait?

Did I ever ask why rebasing rather than conversion trays?

    3. Hey yet more great points Mike. It’s all really excellent feedback almost all of it I agree with 100%

      These interactions are much better.

Ahh I’m rebasing from a multibase. It was a good experiment the multibase but never felt entirely right.

At least I have learnt that i prefer individual.

Never ever in my life based a fantasy model on a round base! I point blank refuse!
