Wood Elves - Woody Four
Nihel & Alvina Archer Units
Part Four - Mistwood Rangers & Glade Guard
Two units this week. I kinda leaked these out a bit earlier than planned this week. So there maybe a few of you who saw these once already, but I think they are good enough to see them again.

Mistwood Rangers Full Unit Look |
First Nihel’s Mistwood Rangers these are in a fundamentally different colour palette to the rest of the army. I decided that dark browns with blue was a good choice to provide me with a third unit of Archers that can double up as Waywatchers if required.

I also gave them a moon symbol and have named them the Mistwood Rangers to add that extra feel for when it’s required. This unit is mainly comprised of extra Skarloc’s Archers that I had left over, that unit was 20 strong, so this unit became naturally 12 once I added a command.
You will note the Champion ‘Nihel’ is one of the oldest Wood Elves ever made by citadel and if memory serves correctly somewhere around mid 80s. His proud look fits really well. Finally I have added a unit card for rules aligned to the Waywatchers in the Old-world rules set just released.
Next up we have Alvina’s Glade Guard. This unit is really special because it’s mainly not comprised of models from GW. I hunted high and low for nearly 10 years for Jes Goodwin models online, and then I found a company in the US who set up a kickstarter for these archers. When I saw them I knew they would fit perfectly in my army. This discovery was the inspiration for the army really having found them I decided now was the time to do it.
After I received these models I replaced the bow hand with some Oathmark Elves bows, who had also just been released, it never rains then it pours! The kickstarter came with three different poses which was replicated 4 times, but I was still missing a few. After all the aforementioned research I knew some more of the 80 Citadel Elves would fit perfectly so off to internet once more.
The command and a few others are Citadel models, with the whole unit painted in bright yellows this time, again the Champion ‘Alvina’ has a red hood and tooth theme. The finial detail here is the hand-painted banner, a simple feather this time.
Before I bid you a wonderful weekend above is the unit card for standard Glade Guard unit. Take care everyone.
Cool stuff.
ReplyDeleteNice find on those alternate Elves, they do have nice oldhammery feels to them.
Do the rules you play with allow rear ranks to fire?
PS: I think you copy pasted the unit words as both seem to be lead by Alvina. ?
In ToW half the back rank can fire. With 3ed to 6th ed I have rules for its each model that can draw line of sight.
DeleteNB ref mistake I only spotted one mistake did you spot more than one?
Just the one, that both units had Alvina as the text, I see that is corrected.
