Luna Wolves Demi Company - Post Isstvan III Atrocity

The Demi Company

If you have been following this blog of mine, you will be aware that I have recently closed all social media pages except Blue Sky. To support this and also to provide a bit of reliance if we ever have to avoid 'that' crowd again, this blog will serve as an archive of sorts.

So to that end, here we are moving onto a new theme an a new army, with a new font style too :)

So where to start, well growing up playing games with my
cousin, he loves space marines and has always been collecting vast armies from the late 80s. When heresy was released I agreed to collect a few bits which has now grown into a full Demi Company.

First Wing

But as you know I love a good story, so what is the backdrop to this Army? I wanted to try out the baddies in the Hersey, and Sons of Horus was an obvious choice as they play centre stage in this universe but, I also wanted to be flexible and have an army I could use to switch sides. Also having read the first novel in the heresy series, the main character of which is Garviel Loken, seemed a great choice to centre my army around. If you are not aware of this universe essentially; the Isstvan III Atrocity is when the major traitors legions become known/exposed as they start killing off loyal space marines to the emperor. Loken is caught up in this event, and thought to be killed, but later found alive, half mad and along with a few stragglers, they go after Horus. Thats a very long story short by the way.

Second Wing

So, it is this story and army theme I settled on; a small Demi Company of Luna Wolves footsloggers that manage to either survive the Atrocity, or were not present in the first place.

I have not allowed myself to take any heavy kit, or too much of one type of thing save basic squads, as everything would be lost and with no chapter now, there will be limited support or resupply to these guys.

Test for colour scheme

Finally, I came up with this dirty/oily white & black colour scheme to represent the scrubbing off of the paint from the green chapter Sons of Horus colour, in an attempt to return to the original white of the Luna Wolves chapter colour.

Tactical Squad Azazel

The Demi Company comprises two wings, which is essentially the blocks that I painted them in. These models are very expensive for what they are so  I couldn't afford them all in one go. I Think the first batch was painted in 2016-17 and the second was in 2021-22.

Tactical Squad Behemoth

The first wing comprises of two 20 man Tactical Squads, one with the old trusty Bolt Gun, the other with Bolt Pistol and Chainsword for combat. You will note above that squad Behemoth is only 10 men. The other 10 were added in phase two. Also worth noting the painting details here; all squads have Mark 4 armour as standard issue, and Mark 6 given to Veterans and Sergeants, with black reversed colours on left shoulder pad and black helmets for Sergeants and above. Not only does this make them stand out, it adds a little character, and for me, represents replacement armour filtering in to the company but with not enough to go around because the company is borrowing and savaging whatever it can get. As we all know officers get first dibs on kit!

Iacton Qruze, Master of Signal

Leading the first wing is Master of Signal, Centurion Iacton Qruze calling down orbital strikes with his funky rouge trader style radar disc!

Support Squad Dantanian

I will cover the second wing and a few more details next week, but before I go, above is the last addition to the first wing.

Support squad Dantanian, in the same theme as above but with Multi-meltas. As I have very little in the way of heavy support in this company, this squad adds some much needed punch and is supposed to hunt down tanks!

Next week we will see some transport options I put this support squad in……but that’s is as heavy as it gets promise!
