Wood Elves - Woody Five

Spear & Falconers Core Units Part Five - Mern's Kindband & Keltoi's Moon Falconers Well we are right into the core of this Woodelf army now and having shown you three core units last week, this time I have another three to show you. These three are all a little different, two foot troops and a proxy archer unit. Full Unit - Mern’s Speartooth Kindband First up we have Mern's, 'the Gardener', Speartooth Kindband. Essentially these are to serve as Eternal Guard in the new The Old World (ToW) rules. However, I have written the unit card as a standard unarmored elf spear unit. I like basic units in the theme of this army, most elves living in the wood are not just going to pile out as some super unit in my head. In addition to that, it really makes the army feel more feral in nature, more natural if you like. Mern Advances Mern himself came out really well here and is simply one of the five original Citadel Miniatures from this spear elf set with a hood. The oth...

Wood Elves - Woody Four

Nihel & Alvina Archer Units Part Four -  Mistwood Rangers & Glade Guard Two units this week. I kinda leaked these out a bit earlier than planned this week. So there maybe a few of you who saw these once already, but I think they are good enough to see them again. Mistwood Rangers Full Unit Look First  Nihel’s Mistwood Rangers these are in a fundamentally different colour palette to the rest of the army. I decided that dark browns with blue was a good choice to provide me with a third unit of Archers that can double up as Waywatchers if required. Unit in Action I also gave them a moon symbol and have named them the Mistwood Rangers to add that extra feel for when it’s required. This unit is mainly comprised of extra Skarloc’s Archers that I had left over, that unit was 20 strong, so this unit became naturally 12 once I added a command.   Unit Card You will note the Champion ‘Nihel’ is one of the oldest Wood Elves ever made by citadel and if memory serves correctly ...

Wood Elves - Woody Three

Gartan's Wardancer Troop Part Three -  Wardancers So time for yet another blog on my growing wood elves. But first a little summary of how the Blog is doing. Unit Command at normal distance So as your all aware since the start of 2025, I left all other media sites and started this Blog linked to Bluesky. I am keeping both to strictly miniature painting too, something I hadn’t always done in the past. After 15 posts and my third army/topic, the reader ship of the blog is on the steady decline since it launched, and I would say it’s now about 20 or so regular readers, from a launching of about 100 views, and one or two regular interactions. I am making note of this now so we can reflect on it in the future. Galdir, an elf with a deep Scottish accent! Eidyn, spent some time in the gladiator slave pits of Kislev. Edrim, used to be an acrobatic in a travelling circus that traveled around Bretonnia. Eledhirn, the Jester of the woodland court! I just want to say a massive thank you to tho...

Wood Elves - Woody Two

Skarloc's Deepwood Scouts Part Two - Skarloc's Wood Elf Scouts Skarloc's Deepwood Elf Scouts fight to preserve the edges of their forest home against the depradations of other races, most notably Orcs. Little is known of their deeds, although on one occasion over 200 Orcs of the Broken Skull tribe entered the forest, and none returned.  Skarloc's Deepwood Scouts After having completed the Wain Lords, the next most iconic miniature to collect was obviously Skarloc, almost all of us have owned him at one time or another, so after hunting him and most of his Regiment of Renown box set down online, in 2023/4, I set about painting them up. Skarloc 'The Hooded One' First up, to show you is Skarloc himself in his snazzy checkerboard trousers. I decided at this point to start a few themes throughout the collection which will become an army, greenstuff modelled mushrooms and Red Hoods with triangles pattern for Champions and Hero's (I am going back old school/oldhamm...
